Passive Optical Networks (PON)

PON fiber optic technology replaces traditional Ethernet (copper) infrastructures.  Advantages: PON signal travels over 12-miles versus copper’s 300 foot limit.  40 to 60% savings on installation and operational cost over traditional copper infrastructures. Telecommunication distribution closets usually filled with copper patch panels and network switches are not required, thus saving valuable square footage.  The US Army has mandated the implementation of PON technology in all new construction projects.
